How The EX Space created the No.1 CPD site for Employee Experience Professionals using LearnWorlds

Introduction

Lee Smith and Emma Bridger are two of the foremost experts in their fields, with multiple books and successful businesses under their belts. They wanted a way to help nurture and professionalise the growing field of Employee Experience and Engagement as well as generate additional income from their expertise. Client background

The EX Space was co-founded by Emma Bridger and Lee Smith in London in 2022. The pair set out on a mission to equip a new generation of people leaders to create better experiences for their employees and, in doing so, unlock engagement and drive organisational success.

With more than 50 years combined experience in the employee communication, engagement and experience space, Emma and Lee are two of the most experienced practitioners in the field, having advised senior leaders at dozens of global organisations over the last three decades.

What challenges did they face?

Emma and Lee’s vision was to bring together all the elements of employee engagement and employee experience in one place – a shared space where professionals from diverse backgrounds can meet, learn, collaborate and, together, transform the world of work. They wanted the EX Space to become the go-to destination for EX practitioners, bringing together certified courses, practical tools, peer-to-peer support, networking and much more.
The key challenges where we helped were...
  • How do we bring together and manage access to so many different types of content within the constraints of the LearnWorlds system?
  • How do we make sure the site is easy to navigate, with so much content?
  • How do we ensure that the three membership levels can access everything seamlessly and offer ways to upgrade to higher subscriptions?
  • How do we ensure that the premium courses are CPD certified?
  • How much content do you need for a subscription service so that users feel like they're getting value?

Our solutions

This project pushed the boundaries of what you can do with LearnWorlds. It went way beyond the core functionality of selling a few online courses on a website. It was a huge logistical challenge. Not only to create a vast ambitious catalogue of content for launch, but to start from a blank page with everything and create a compelling experience for users.
Here's how we helped...

1. Close collaboration

To achieve this we worked closely with the EX Space team joining them on regular project meetings for almost a year, from start to launch. We were able to quickly respond, challenge and guide the team around the best way to realise their ambitious visions.

2. Rapid iteration

We quickly built and iterated templates and wireframes for different learning content and webpage content. When it came to meeting the needs of the CPD Certification board, we were able to interpret their requirements and help ensure that the courses met all the necessary standards.

3. Extended team

Our friendly, flexible approach and broad skillset means we were able to cover a wide range of tasks to help the team get things done. From video editing and captioning to, learning content design guides, and much much more.

4. Creative problem solving

When you’re pushing the limits of a platform, it’s inevitable that you’ll hit some bumps in the road. We’ve worked in the e-learning industry for nearly 20 years, across a wide range of tools and technologies, so we’re well versed in finding work arounds when the system says “no”. We believe that contraints breed creativity and there’s almost always a way around an obstacle.

Results

The EX Space is now well into it’s second year. The premium Masterclass courses are all CPD certified. It continues to grow steadily and consistently receiving outstanding feedback from members:
